Six Senses Zighy Bay Is Reached by Paraglider, Not a Driveway
On Oman’s Musandam Peninsula, Six Senses Zighy Bay is built like a traditional fishing village around a private cove, reachable by a cliff-edge coastal drive or, for the more adventurous, a tandem paraglide onto the beach.

Six Senses Zighy Bay sits on a horseshoe-shaped cove on Oman’s Musandam Peninsula, the mountainous exclave separated from the rest of the country by a stretch of the United Arab Emirates and bordering the Strait of Hormuz. The resort is built low and spread out along the sand and up the surrounding cliffside, its whitewashed, sand-toned villas designed to echo a traditional Omani fishing village rather than read as a conventional hotel block.

The approach itself has become part of the resort’s reputation. Most guests reach Zighy Bay on a coastal drive from Dubai, a route of a little over two hours that climbs into the Hajar Mountains before dropping down a switchback road to the shore. Since the property opened in 2008, it has also offered a tandem paraglide as an alternative arrival: guests launch from a clifftop above the bay and land directly on the beach in front of the resort, weather and conditions permitting.
Spread out, not stacked
The villas are scattered along sandy paths rather than arranged in a single building, several with their own plunge pool and a rooftop terrace reached by an outdoor staircase, a layout meant to give each stay a sense of separation despite the compact size of the bay itself. Buggies and bicycles are the usual way to move between villas, the restaurants and the spa, which is built into the hillside above the beach.
Why Musandam
The peninsula is sometimes called the Norway of Arabia for the fjord-like inlets that cut into its coastline further north, a landscape best seen on a traditional dhow cruise out of Khasab, the regional capital roughly ninety minutes from the resort by road. Closer to the bay itself, the reef just offshore draws snorkellers, and the surrounding mountains offer walking trails with views back down over the cove.
Traveller tips
- The paraglide arrival depends on weather and wind conditions on the day, so it is not guaranteed even when arranged in advance.
- The drive from Dubai crosses in and out of UAE territory; carry the correct documents for both sides of the border.
- Musandam’s dhow cruises out of Khasab are typically arranged as a half- or full-day excursion rather than a quick add-on.
- Confirm current rates, villa categories and any seasonal closures directly with the resort before booking.
