Malaysia has extended its visa exemption for Indian nationals until 31 December 2026, according to the Malaysian government and confirmed by immigration advisory firms including Fragomen. Under the extension, Indian passport holders can continue entering Malaysia without a visa for tourism, business, social visits or transit, for stays of up to 30 days, a waiver that has been in place in various forms since 2023 and has now been rolled forward again.

What the extension covers
The exemption applies to ordinary passport holders travelling for purposes other than work or study, meaning business visits, tourism and social calls are covered but employment and study still require a separate visa arranged in advance. Chinese passport holders received the same extension alongside Indian nationals, continuing a joint waiver both countries' governments have renewed periodically as part of Malaysia's wider tourism push.
What travellers still need to do
Visa-free entry does not remove all pre-arrival steps: travellers are required to complete Malaysia's Digital Arrival Card online before landing, a short online form separate from the visa exemption itself. A valid passport with at least six months' validity, proof of onward travel and evidence of sufficient funds for the stay remain standard checks at immigration, as they would under any visa-free arrangement.

Why it matters for Indian travellers
Malaysia has been among India's fastest-growing outbound leisure markets in recent years, helped by extensive direct flight connectivity from multiple Indian cities and a visa-free arrangement that removes what was previously a multi-day application step for short trips. The extension through the end of 2026 gives travellers and travel operators a longer planning horizon than the shorter renewals issued in some previous years.
Traveller tips
- This summary reflects the extension as announced; confirm current requirements on Malaysia's official immigration department website or with your airline before booking, since visa-free arrangements are periodically reviewed.
- The visa exemption covers stays of up to 30 days; onward or return travel beyond that requires a different visa category.
- Complete Malaysia's Digital Arrival Card online in the days before departure; it is separate from, and still required alongside, the visa exemption.
- The waiver does not extend to work or study; those purposes still require the relevant visa arranged before travel.
